We are excited to announce that Targeted Rights Initiative (TRI) will be participating in the 2025 Forum on Internet Freedom in Africa (FIFAfrica25), taking place in Namibia this September. As part of our ongoing #SpeakUpSpeakOut Campaign against Technology-Facilitated Gender-Based Violence (TFGBV), TRI will host a powerful exhibition titled “Portraits of Quiet Pain.”

Represented by our Executive Director, Doreen Raheena Sulleyman, the exhibition will run on September 25–26, 2025, and will feature artworks from Ghanaian artists who are using creativity as a form of advocacy. Through painting, digital arts, jewelry and mixed media, the exhibition explores the often-invisible realities of online abuse, the silent scars it leaves behind, and the resilience of survivors who continue to reclaim their voices.

“Portraits of Quiet Pain” tells the story of survivors through three interconnected themes:

  • Silence and Pain – the weight of isolation and digital harm.
  • Survival and Support – the role of compassion, solidarity, and community.
  • Healing and Hope – the resilience of survivors and the vision of safer digital spaces.
My Silent Funeral – An original artwork from Artist Nii Quartey for the exhibition.

By situating survivor-centered stories within an artistic framework, the exhibition creates an immersive experience that goes beyond statistics. Participants get to experience and tell their own stories through a DIY Quote Card activity. It calls on all of us policymakers, activists, creatives, and digital rights defenders, to take collective action against online abuse.

FIFAfrica25 provides the perfect platform for this conversation, bringing together voices from across the continent to reflect, learn, and act on the most pressing issues shaping internet freedom and digital rights in Africa. For Targeted Rights Initiative, it is an opportunity to not only spotlight TFGBV but also to amplify the power of art as a tool for advocacy, healing, and social change.

We invite all FIFAfrica25 participants to join us at “Portraits of Quiet Pain” and stand in solidarity with survivors. Together, let us create a world where online spaces are safe, inclusive, and free from violence.
